The
first issue of Scrap Magazine was published by Plutønium
Press in 1986. All of the images in this issue are by Chris
Winkler, except the centerfold photographs, inside back cover,
and back cover. After meeting the editor of MaLLife Magazine,
Mike Miskowski, I was motivated to start a similar photocopied,
8.5 x 11 inch, folded and saddle stapled magazine, mostly as a vehicle
for my collages and visual art, since I was not able to get them published
elsewhere.
Since
I didn't know what I was doing, pretty much every image was in color,
which is like watching World War II battles in color. Subsequent issues
are mostly b/w, due to the photocopier. At the time, color images
were very expensive, and were only used for flyers or post cards.
I scanned the originals, cleaned them up, and converted them into
PDF based eBooks. I also threw in a few extra's that were not originally
published, and some of the ads I was using @ the time. You can download
the Adobe Acrobat Reader or eBook reader to view the magazine.
